The offers have been coming in for Philadelphia, (Pa.), West Philadelpphia Cathloic defensive tackle Derrell Hand. Hand, who stands 6-foot-4 and weighs 305 pounds, has attracted numerous offers ranging from the Atlantic East to the Midwest.
Hand’s favorites list includes Wisconsin, Iowa, Purdue, Penn State, Maryland, LSU, Miami and NC State. Although he’s still weighing his options, he has focused in on three leaders -- Maryland, Miami and Penn State.

“I like Maryland a lot right now because they’ve created a football tradition and it’s close enough that my family can visit often. I plan on making a visit there soon.”
If Hand chooses to stay in Pennsylvania, it’ll be at Penn State, which is one of the locations he plans to camp at this summer. He also plans on attending camps at Maryland and Syracuse.
“Penn State intrigues me because they have such a great tradition and coaching staff. I’m also looking at Miami because they’ve accomplished everything that can be attained in college football. I’m going to wait and see if those two offers come in.”
Hand already has offers from Wisconsin, Iowa, Purdue, Maryland, NC State, Syracuse, Rutgers and Boston College. In his junior season, Hand was named to the 2003 Coaches’ All-Catholic first team as a tight end.
