Phillips to Tennessee

SAN ANTONIO, Tex. -- Nashville (Tenn.) Hillsboro defensive end Kyle Phillips kept everyone guessing at his college selection right up until he announced for his home-state school of Tennessee.

"It is perfect for my family and me," Phillips said. "That's why I picked Tennessee."
Phillips announced his commitment to Tennessee during the telecast of the U.S. Army All-American Bowl. He chose the Volunteers over finalists LSU and Ole Miss. Each team appeared to be a legitimate option coming into the week, and Phillips admitted it had been a tough decision between the three SEC schools.
One of the primary factors in Tennessee's ability to land Phillips was the fact that their Knoxville campus is close to his Nashville home.
"That is something because it's easy for my family to get to the games," Phillips said earlier this week. "It is the closest school that I am looking at and that's a pretty big factor in my decision I would say."
Tennessee will not have to wait long to get Phillips on campus and start working him into their off-season routine because he is an early enrollee and is ready to start school this month.
The 6-foot-3, 259-pound Phillips is ranked as the No. 146 player in the 2015 class. He is also ranked as the No. 11 strongside defensive end and the No. 3 player in the state of Tennessee.
