Phillips makes a decision

Staten Island (N.Y.) Port Richmond safety Torian Phillips has come to a decision. The 5-foot-10, 166-pounder held offers from Duke and Syracuse. Who has he committed to?
"I verbally committed to Syracuse today," he said. "They were my first offer and I just like the tradition.

"Coach Marrone came by my school today and I like the direction that they are headed, so I verbally committed. Hopefully I can help get them to where they need to be."
Aside from the offer from Duke, Phillips was receiving interest from Rutgers, Maryland, Boston College, Penn State and Rhode Island among others.
How does Syracuse plan to utilize Phillips?
"Coach Marrone was saying that I would probably be used at cornerback," he said. "We'll see how that goes and after that, I might play running back too.
"It might depend on what I do at cornerback."
Phillips posted over 1,300-yards of offense and 25 touchdowns as a senior this past season.
