Hayward (Calif.) defensive lineman Phillip Mbakoguhas done a good job of keeping his recruiting interest pretty close to the vest. For the first time however, the talented lineman gives us a little clue as where he could be signing.
Mbakogu, 6-2, 260 pounds is visiting Cal this weekend and said the idea of staying in the West and playing in the Pac 10 is something that he’s very interested in.
“I’m a pass rusher so the more I think about it, I want to play in a conference that likes to throw the ball around a lot,” Mbakogu said. “No one throws it more than the Pac 10 so I’m starting to lean in that direction. I’ve had a great time at Cal and Robert Jordan and I plan on going to the same school and he really likes it here as well. They really need a rush end and I know I could play early if I signed here.
“I have a few trips to take before I commit anywhere. The Oregon visit should be fun, Marshawn Lynch and Virdell Larkins really liked it there, we’ve been hanging out with those two a lot this weekend. It could come down to those two but I’m not ruling anyone out right now.”
