Phifer mentions early leaders

Interest continues to rise for running back Sterlin Phifer out of Virginia Beach (Va.) Landstown. The 5-foot-11, 200-pounder appears to have a few schools standing out over the rest.
"I'm hearing from Maryland, East Carolina, West Virginia, Rutgers, Alabama, Minnesota, Virginia and Virginia Tech. ," he said. "I really want to get out of Virginia. I just want to see something new."

With that in mind, who does Phifer like?
"I'd say Maryland, Rutgers, East Carolina and Minnesota are up there," he said. "Maryland is real close to family. My mom's family is in D.C. and Baltimore. I like the way the campus is set up too.
"I like Rutgers because they run the ball a lot along with East Carolina. I like what ECU did with Chris Johnson and how they used him. As for Minnesota, I like them because they produce great backs."
Phifer plans to take a few visits in the coming weeks to West Virginia and East Carolina for spring games. He also plans to make his way to the Nike Camp at North Carolina.
