Pflugerville (Texas) High School features two 2008 prospects and both are getting plenty of early interest from several schools across the country and the state.
Coach George Hermann says that cornerback/athlete Zaviar Gooden is as good a player as several others he's had. Big back Greg Nwoko is also drawing his fair share of early interest as well.
"Zavair is just like Antwan (Cobb) and others," Hermann said. "He's a quality kid with great character, and can play offense, defense or wherever we play him."
Hermann says that Gooden still just holds one scholarship offer from Baylor, but he's been to Texas A&M for an unofficial visit. Texas may also be a school he visits in the future.
"I think he's waiting to see some things," Hermann said. "He's going to wait and see all that (before committing).
Hermann reports that Gooden currently sports a 37-inch vertical leap and is a sub 4.5-second 40-yard dash runner consistently.
"He's been looking real good in the off-season," Hermann said about Gooden. "He's just a real good athlete."
Nwoko isn't as big of a name yet, but at 6-foot-2, 230 pounds, he's definitely one that could see his stock rise.
"Greg has been our running back," Hermann said. "But at the next level, he could be a full back, a defensive end, a linebacker or somewhere in there. He started as a sophomore. This past year he was an all-district (selection).
"Greg is versatile. He's a hard runner, lowers his pads, and just runs over people."
