LSU, Ole Miss, Florida, Nebraska, Arizona State, Louisville, and Tulane have also extended scholarship offers, and the 2016 Rivals250 prospect is enjoying the process.
"Recruiting has been good for me," Pettigrew said. "I've pretty much been talking to the same schools. A couple of schools are messaging me on Twitter and I just got a Texas A&M offer last week. I need to catch up with them and get to know them a little better. So recruiting has been good for me."
The 6-foot-5, 215-pound standout is just beginning to get to know the Texas A&M coaches, but he is already familiar with the program.
"I don't really get a chance to watch college football a lot because we have a lot of games on Saturday, but every now and then I catch them on TV or on a replay when I can," Pettigrew said. "I catch a lot of schools on replay when I can. My impression of them is they like to spread the ball a little bit. They like to get in five wide sets and spread their tight end out a little bit. I like that and I like what they do with their tight ends."
While he is in the beginning stages with Texas A&M, he has a few teams he has already established pretty strong relationships.
"Pretty regularly I'm staying in touch with Ole Miss, Arizona State, and LSU," Pettigrew said.
He has not been able to take many unofficial visits, but he was able to attend the LSU/Mississippi State game earlier this fall.
"It was an exciting game," Pettigrew said. "LSU was down for a good bit of the game then they put in their true freshman quarterback and started coming back. I thought they were going to win that game. It came down to the last play."
This weekend Pettigrew plans to visit Ole Miss for the Rebels game with Auburn, and then he is eyeing a return trip to Baton Rouge as LSU hosts Alabama.
In addition to his offers he is also hearing from Miami, and he is not in a hurry to trim his list or name any leaders. However, he does have a few thoughts and informal plans.
"No sir, I'm still open, but maybe after football season I'm going to start forming my top five and stuff," Pettigrew said.
Pettigrew is currently ranked No. 179 in the 2016 Rivals250, No. 8 among the nation's 2016 tight ends, and No. 13 in the Rivals.com Louisiana Initial Top 30 for 2016.
