Penn State satellite camp: Recruiting notes

NORFOLK, VA. - The Penn State coaching staff, along with many other college coaches, helped work a camp at Old Dominion on Thursday evening. About 1,000 players showed up, but here is the most important recruiting news that surfaced.
Davis likes three

Wayne Davis
Norfolk (Va.) Lake Taylor defensive back Wayne Davis previously had a top five of Virginia Tech, Ohio State, Michigan, Tennessee and Wake Forest but now has a top three of Michigan, Virginia Tech and Ohio State. He says there is no order to these schools at this time. Davis has visited Virginia Tech multiple times and has a former teammate, Jalyn Holmes, at Ohio State. The Michigan coaches have made a strong impression on Davis.
On Friday Davis will visit Virginia Tech then head to Penn State on Saturday. He'll leave after camp on Sunday and will camp at Maryland Sunday evening. Davis wants to commit before the season and will take official visits after the season.
Matos blowing up
2017 Fredericksburg (Va.) Chancellor linebacker Yetur Matos is blowing up before our very eyes. Within the past two weeks he has added offers from Clemson, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Duke, West Virginia, Old Dominion and Penn State, with the last four coming on Thursday evening. Matos has visited Duke, Clemson, Virginia, Virginia Tech and West Virginia, and a visit to Penn State could be in the works. There are no early favorites for Matos so look for him to take more visits and do more research over the rest of the offseason.
Wolfpack on top?
It is always difficult to judge linebackers in the camp setting but 2017 Rocky Mount, N.C. linebacker Sherrod Greene did get the chance to show off his athleticism. It is easy to see why N.C. State and Virginia Tech have offered him. The Wolfpack looks like his leader right now but Virginia Tech could make a push for Greene. His former teammate is Houshun Gaines, a 2015 prospect who signed with the Hokies. Look for Greene to set up more visits for later this offseason.
Crosby close with Wolfpack, Hokies
Eric Crosby
Miami, Florida State, Alabama and Florida are some of the recent offers for 2017 Virginia Beach (Va.) Ocean Lakes ATH Eric Crosby. He has visited N.C. State and Virginia Tech the most and will take trips to Florida State and Tennessee in July. Crosby feels closest with the coaches at N.C. State and Virginia Tech.
Asiedu emerging
2018 Stafford (Va.) North Stafford DE Nana Asiedu is just breaking onto the recruiting scene but he has sky-high potential. He has the frame to play on the defensive or offensive line in college and is exceptionally athletic for his size at such a young age. Virginia is the only school to offer Asiedu so far but Virginia Tech, Penn State and Old Dominion are very close to offering him. Expect those three schools to offer once they see his film from the upcoming season.
Carney's recruitment progressing
Norfolk (Va.) Lake Taylor offensive lineman Michael Carney has been keeping a low profile lately but it seems like his recruitment is moving forward. Auburn, Old Dominion and Virginia have really caught his attention and more visits are very likely. This weekend Carney will take a few visits with his teammates. On Friday planned to be at Virginia Tech before camping at Penn State on Saturday. He will end up camping at Maryland Sunday evening.
More offers for Capehart
Tahj Capeheart
Georgia, North Carolina and N.C. State are V2017 irginia Beach (Va.) Ocean Lakes WR Tahj Capehart's most recent offers. He was at North Carolina for the Freak Show on Saturday and hopes to go to N.C. State's games this year. The coaches at Georgia really want Capehart to visit the campus. He talks to the coaches at Virginia Tech, Virginia, Ohio State and Georgia the most. In July Capehart will visit Florida State and Tennessee. He thinks Penn State could be the next to offer him.
Ashby high on Hokies
2017 Chesterfield (Va.) Lloyd C Bird linebacker Rayshard Ashby had made waves on the field throughout his high school career and has started to make waves of it. Virginia Tech offered Ashby on Thursday, the first school to extend him an offer. Ashby is very fond of the Hokies and likes where the program is headed. Expect him to make it back out to Blacksburg this offseason.
