When James Franklin and his staff were at Vanderbilt, they recruited four-star quarterback Brady White. When they transitioned over to Penn State, the courtship continued.
Things took a drastically more important turn earlier this week when Penn State became the newest offer for the Newhall (Calif.) Hart standout, and he's definitely excited to learn more about the Nittany Lions.
"Coach (Ricky) Rahne and Franklin came from Vandy and they were recruiting me when they were there, and they switched to Penn State and so that recruitment carried over to the new program," White said. "They offered Trent (Irwin) and we're at the same school and we're a good duo together, so they had me call and I talked to coach Rahne and the OC and the wide receivers coach and they were excited and let me know what their program is all about, and they let me know they were going to offer, so it was exciting."
Penn State is definitely a serious option for White, who threw for 4,535 yards with 41 touchdowns and 18 interceptions in his junior season.
The Newhall Hart standout loves that the Lions have also offered Irwin, a four-star receiver, and White is well-versed in the success of current Penn State quarterback Christian Hackenberg as well.
"Coach Franklin turned around Vandy's program and made them have a few awesome seasons," White said. "That whole staff contributed to that, so I'm sure they're going to contribute that to Penn State's program. Penn State is an awesome school. They have a lot of history and a lot of tradition. They're a great program. Christian Hackenberg is there right now and he's tearing it up. When I was a freshman he was doing the Elite 11, so I got to watch him.
"When you're younger, you're under the wing of the older guys at those camps and he's a great guy. He had a phenomenal season, so everybody knows they have great quarterbacks that go through Penn State and that staff is going to take care of you."
So far, White has been offered by Penn State, California, Colorado State, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland and San Jose State. Missouri, Texas A&M and Washington State are showing the most interest, along with many others including Oklahoma State and Oregon.
