Pearson is committed, but open

Back in January, Lenoir (N.C.) Hibriten running back Kaylen Pearson made a decision to follow his brother. In recent weeks, the 5-foot-11, 185-pounder has opened things up.
"He's actually committed to Duke," Hibriten head coach Clay Lewis said. "He has talked to a lot of other schools, North Carolina, Georgia Tech and Clemson are interested in him. They've asked if he's committed. We've talked about it and he says he's committed to Duke, but is keeping his options open."

At this time, however Pearson is still a Blue Devil pledge. What made him pick Duke?
"He's been around them and he went to their camp last summer. He really liked it there," he stated. "The coaches really liked him and his brother is there, Damian Thornton. That had a strong influence on him. He also liked Coach MacIntyre who's now at San Jose State, but the fact Coach Mac is gone now didn't have any effect on his commitment. He committed after he left."
Lewis broke down Pearson as a player.
"He's kind of a do it all player for us," he said. "He's a really good return guy and a good defensive back, safety. He plays slot back on offense and is a really good offensive player. We run the spread option attack and he averaged 12-yards per carry. He's got really good hands and catches the ball well. He's a multidimensional player for us.
"I know several schools have looked at him as a defensive back and a few others at running back. I kind of see him developing more as a defensive back. He could be a slot receiver or tailback. Defensively he's a good cover guy and has pretty good hips and his technique is fundamentally sound."
Pearson is an impressive player and an even better person according to his coach.
"He is a super kid," he said. "He comes from a good family and he's just a good kid. He's real personable, keeps his nose clean and is an A-B student. He's a three sport athlete as well playing basketball and track too."
