Position: Defensive Back
Size and speed: Young is 5-foot-11, weighs 175 pounds and runs the 40-yard dash in 4.5 seconds.
Statistics: As a junior, he recorded 100 tackles and forced five fumbles.
Favorite Schools: Georgia Tech, Georgia, Southern Miss, Florida, South Carolina, Tennessee.
Skinny: Opponents coming across the middle of the field against Gainesville’s Stacy Young have to beware the consequences.
“He’s an extremely strong kid for his size, and he loves to hit,” said Gainesville coach Bruce Miller. “He’ll come up and knock you into the middle of next week. He’s one of the most aggressive guys we’ve had around here.”
Young displayed that last season when he recorded approximately 100 tackles and five forced fumbles at safety in helping lead the Red Elephants to a 13-1 record and the state semifinals.
Miller says Young also has solid coverage skills after starting at cornerback his freshman and sophomore years.
“He’ll be a four-year starter with a ton of experience,” Miller said. “He doesn’t have the 4.4 type speed of some DBs, but he knows how to play. He takes the right angles and breaks on the ball well.”
Young has received interest from Georgia Tech, Florida, South Carolina and Southern Miss, among others. He also lists Georgia and Tennessee among his favorites.
“His name is just starting to get out there,” Miller said. “I think he’ll be getting a lot more attention if he has a great senior season for us.”
