Coming on the heels of a fantastic 9-4 season and New Orleans Bowl victory, Memphis has landed a verbal commitment from of the Peach State’s top sleepers.
Tyrone (Ga.) Sandy Creek running back Philip Hyde says a number of factors led to his decision.

“They have been recruiting me the longest and hardest," he said. "Plus, they’re a program on the rise.”
Hyde (5-10, 193, 4.46) also had offers from Louisville, Kentucky, Mississippi State, Clemson, Georgia Southern and Middle Tennessee. His official visit for Memphis is scheduled for Jan. 23. He may also still take a scheduled trip to MSU on Jan. 16, but says he’s sold on the Tigers.
Asked what he liked most about Memphis, Hyde said: “Pretty much everything. I really like coach West and coach Keane, and playing in Memphis was a big factor. My family will get to see me play. I think it’s the best fit for me.
“It looks like D’Angelo Williams will probably go pro after next year, so they’ll have an opening at running back.”
As a senior, Hyde rushed for more than 1,700 yards and 23 touchdowns. He had 3,500 yards and 40 touchdowns in his final two years at Sandy Creek.
