Payne ready to take over

Allen, Texas quarterback Stephen Payne says he has some big shows to fill with Nathan Dick headed to Arkansas this fall.
Dick, the former starter for Allen, is now being replaced by the 6-foot-4, 192-pound Payne. The talented senior-to-be is ready for the challenge and working hard in the off-season. At the same time, he's fielding mail and interest from schools all over the country.

"It's just a lot of schools looking right now," Payne said. "it's Arizona, Colorado, Nebraska, Oklahoma State, and Texas A&M. Every other week it seems like there are new schools. I play basketball and so I get the same stuff for that too."
Payne says he grew up a Florida State fan, but hasn't received any mail from the Seminoles yet. Aside from that, he's keeping his recruiting options open.
"I just want to get to a D-I college," Payne said. "My mom and parents would like me to be close, but I really am open to going anywhere."
Payne says that he plans on hitting some camps this summer. Aside from that, he's just preparing to take over the starting role at Allen.
"We have our receivers returning and a lot of our offensive line," Payne said. "Our defense is going to be real young though. I'm just trying to take the place of Nathan. It's a lot of work."
