Patchan close to narrowing list

Rivals100 offensive tackle/defensive end prospect Matt Patchan is closing in on narrowing his list of college choices and recently took an unofficial visit to a Southeastern Conference program and came away impressed.
"I'm sitting down with my parents and my coach next week," Patchan said. "We are going to talk things over and then I am going to narrow things down from there. I will probably narrow it to eight or possibly nine."

Patchan plans to take several unofficial visits once he narrows his list. He's already made one stop this summer- Baton Rouge, La., to check out LSU.
"LSU was great," Patchan said. "You can tell that they have a really special program there. Coach Earl Lane and coach Greg Studrawa are both really good coaches and you can tell that they are a top-notch program."
Patchan took notice of the atmosphere that surrounds LSU football.
"Obviously, the passion that the people feel for LSU football in the state of Louisiana is great," he said.
The Tigers also are talking to him about playing defense.
"Coach Lane told me he was going to make me into the best defensive end that they've ever had at LSU," Patchan said.
So do the Tigers have a shot at making Patchan's cut next week?
"I'd say they've got a pretty good chance," he said. "I really did enjoy myself down there during my visit."
Patchan has more than 45 offers, including Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Miami (Fla.), Ole Miss, Nebraska and Notre Dame, among others. He is the nation's No. 33 overall prospect.
