Parnell plays waiting game

Winnsboro (S.C.) Fairfield Central cornerback Devontre Parnell might have a half-dozen offers, but he apparently is in no hurry to pick a school.
Or even name a leader.

"It's too early for me right now," Parnell said.
According to Parnell, there is no need to rush things because although he has offers from East Carolina, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisville, N.C. State and Vanderbilt, he expects more to come.
And he might be right.
On Monday, Virginia Tech stopped by Parnell's school, and Parnell said he is getting a good vibe from the Hokies.
"They said they're still evaluating me," Parnell said. "But they told me they like what I do. I like my chances there. I like Virginia Tech. They produce good defensive backs. That's a good DB program. It's a school I would be interested in."
Alabama also is showing strong interest, Parnell said.
"I talked to [Tide defensive assistant Chris Rumph] last week," Parnell said. "He's a cool guy. A couple days later, I got to talk to [head coach Nick] Saban. He said he liked what I do, but he's still evaluating me. He likes my hips. It was real cool. I got a good feel for him. He was a DB-minded coach. He coached DBs before he became a head coach."
Asked who might be next to offer, Parnell predicted it would be either Alabama or Clemson.
"Clemson said they're trying to get me up for a visit," Parnell said. "They want me to come up to a one-day camp. So I'll probably go there in June."
Thus far, Clemson, Connecticut, East Carolina and South Carolina also have been to his school.
"I know LSU is coming, and Miami is supposed to be coming," Parnell said. "I feel like I'm about to have a whole bunch of offers. It's very exciting."
