Palmetto WR down to three; sets visit

One of the Palmetto State’s rising prospects has trimmed his list to three schools and scheduled his first official visit.
“I’ve got it down to three,” said Duncan (S.C.) Byrnes wide receiver Jomar Wright. “It’s Kentucky, Wake Forest and Georgia. I have offers from Kentucky and Wake Forest. I set up my first visit with Wake Forest on Dec. 6.

“Georgia hasn’t offered yet, but coach Fabris has been staying in touch with me. He told me that they really liked me and wanted to get some more film. It sounded kind of promising the last time I talked with him.”
Wright (6-2, 185, 4.5) is having a huge senior season for Byrnes. He’s caught 70 passes for more than 1,300 yards and 17 touchdowns in leading the team to its first undefeated regular season (11-0) in school history.
He’s also a great all-around student-athlete, maintaining a 4.26 weighted GPA and posting a 960 on the SAT.
Asked to break down his co-leaders, he offered the following:
“With Kentucky, I really like the recruiting coach, who would also be my position coach if I go there – Joker Phillips. I’ve known him for a long time, and he was the first coach to offer me a scholarship, so that’s where my loyalty has been. I liked the campus and facilities when I went up there for a passing tournament. I also like the fact that they throw the ball a lot and play in the SEC. I’ve got to see them a couple of times on TV this year (South Carolina, Mississippi State, Arkansas) and they looked pretty good.
“With Wake Forest, I like the fact that they’re a team on the rise and they have great academics. The student-teacher ratio is something like 20:1 there, which is really good. I went there for a junior day and a passing league tournament. The campus is real nice. I also like my recruiting coach, coach Henry. He’s a real honest, down-to-earth guy.
“Georgia is a great program. I love their tradition and the environment there. They always have a good offense and good receivers. I would probably be redshirted there and may have to wait a bit longer to play, but that would be OK. If they offered, my interest would be very serious.”
Wright has made unofficial visits to Georgia (Alabama game) and Clemson (Georgia game) this fall. He plans a return trip to Athens this weekend for the Bulldogs’ matchup with Auburn.
