Palmetto State junior gets first offer

Athlete Gary Gray, a class of 2007 prospect from Columbia (S.C.) Richland Northeast High, received his first scholarship offer today.
According to sources on the Cavaliers coaching staff, Auburn extended an offer to the 5-foot-11, 170-pounder.
Gray, who projects as a cornerback in college and figures to be one of the top prospects in South Carolina for the class of 2007, played quarterback for Richland Northeast last night in its 44-21 victory against Colleton County in the first round of the South Carolina Class 4A playoffs.

He completed 8-of-9 passes for 228 yards and two touchdowns, rushed for a team-high 98 yards, including a 44-yard touchdown and had an interception on defense.
Gray's two touchdown passes were thrown to Class of 2007 player to watch Mark Barnes, from 80 and 60 yards, respectively. Barnes, who is likely to be one of the top prospects in South Carolina for next year's class, finished with 195 yards receiving.
Gray is being recruited for Auburn by Terry Price. He also has gotten early interest from Clemson (Burton Burns) and South Carolina (Rick Stockstill).
