Three-star Rock Hill (S.C.) Northwestern defensive back C.J. Barber has scheduled the first of what he expects to be five official visits leading up to signing day.
“I’ve got my first one set up for South Carolina on Jan. 16,” he said. “I don’t have just one favorite right now, but I like them a lot. They’ll be losing four senior cornerbacks this year and a couple of safeties next year, so it looks like I’d have a good opportunity to go in and get some early playing time.
“I plan to take all five of my visits. The other ones will probably be Georgia, Clemson, Tennessee and Florida.”
South Carolina, Georgia, Clemson and Tennessee have made offers to Barber (6-2, 215, 4.5), who is rated the No. 39 safety in the nation by Rivals.com. Florida may be getting close.
“Florida’s been coming on real hard lately,” Barber said. “They were supposed to be coming up to see me this week, but we lost in the first round of the playoffs. They’re talking like they might offer me now. They just asked for some more tapes.”
Barber missed the final two games of his senior season with torn cartilage in a knee. He had it scoped and is currently rehabbing it. He was unsure what his final season stats were. As a junior, he had six interceptions.
