Palm Beach Gardens QB taking a trip

Next week, Palm Beach Gardens (Fla.) Dwyer quarterback Pete Martinsen is taking a little roadtrip. Martinsen, who is 6-foot-4 and 220 pounds, is going to visit eight schools for either unofficial visits or one-day camps. He also has received his first scholarship offer.

Actually quite a few college coaches made the rounds through Dwyer High School last month.
"We had a ton of schools," Martinsen said. "We have a transfer, Jermaine Moreira from Palm Beach Gardens. He was their quarterback and he's coming to play wide receiver for us. He's an athlete. A lot of schools came in to see me and him. We had Miami, Florida, Florida State... Ron Zook came by and I talked to him. He's a nice guy and he seems pretty cool. All the Big Ten was there. We had Auburn. We actually had a lot of big schools there. There were at least 10 a day."
Martinsen, who passed for 1,300 yards and 16 touchdowns last season, also received several telephone calls during the month.
"I got phone calls from Florida and Michigan State. I talked to the head coach at Stanford, Coach Teevens. I'm very interested in Stanford. Michigan and Ohio State called. I got offered from Minnesota the other day. Iowa and Purdue called."
So far Martinsen has only been offered by Minnesota but thinks another school may be close to offering.
"Rutgers has also been recruiting me pretty strongly," Martinsen said. "I think they're about to offer but they can't call anymore. They were writing hand-written letters and stuff like that."
Next week Pete Martinsen will drive up to Orlando for UCF's one-day camp and then he will board a plane for Indianapolis. While in the midwest he will visit Purdue, Notre Dame, Illinois, Minnesota, Michigan State, Michigan, and Ohio State. Pete's interest in the Big Ten is because of a family connection-- Martinsen's dad attended the University of Michigan.
"My father is from Ann Arbor, around that area, so I grew up loving Michigan and all those schools," Martinsen said. "I'm a midwest kid pretty much even though I'm from Florida."
Any favorites?
"I like Miami, Florida, Purdue, Michigan, and Michigan State," Martinsen said.
If the right offer comes along Martinsen might commit early.
"I think I'm probably going to try and commit early to get to that comfort level before the season," Martinsen said. "If not, I think I would be fine. I want to take all my five visits and whatnot."
Dwyer High School recently defeated Sunrise Piper 7-0 in their spring jamboree.
"I threw for a little over 100 yards in one half," Martinsen said. "We only played a half against them with a running clock."
