Position: Athlete. Nelson could either play safety, linebacker, or wide receiver in college.
Size, Speed, & Grades: Nelson is 6-foot-0 and 175 pounds. He had the fourth best forty-yard dash time at the Miami Nike camp-- 4.37 seconds. Nelson has a grade point average of 2.7 and says he will take the SAT on June 1st.
Statistics: Nelson had more than 150 tackles and tallied 11 quarterback sacks last season as a junior.
Honors: Class 4A All-State First Team and Sunshine Network's All-Gridiron First Team last season.
Favorites: Nelson said he didn't have any favorites at this early juncture. "It doesn't really matter to me as long as I go to college and play ball," Nelson said.
Skinny: Reggie Nelson said he didn't have any scholarship offers at this point, but expect that to change during the May evaluation period. He is one of several top recruits on Palm Bay High School's talented roster and the biggest workhorse on defense. Nelson makes plays all over the field at linebacker and when you're in his sights he's not going to let you go. He's a solid tackler. And when Nelson isn't on defense he's burning defenders at wide receiver. What position he plays in college could be up to debate, but Nelson said he thinks most schools will recruit him to play safety.
Nelson said he has received regular correspondence from schools like LSU, Miami, Florida, Florida State, and Georgia in addition to a host of others. "I've been getting a lot of mail," Nelson said. He and a few of his teammates are interested in attending a couple football camps this summer. "We're trying to go to the LSU camp and the Florida State camp," Nelson said. "Some of us are going together."
