Palm Bay ATH is five-star

Defensive end/fullback Joe Cohen of Palm Bay (Fla.) was recently voted by Rivals100.com as a five-star prospect which is considered an elite status for prep football recruits. The 6-foot-2 and 240 pound freak of nature has scouts drooling over his speed and athleticism. FlaRecruiting.com recently caught up him to find out what’s new in his recruitment.
“I was going to go to the Florida one-day camp, but I didn’t go,” Cohen said. “I don’t think I’m going to any camps this summer. I’m training at home instead. On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, I lift weights.”

A lot of college schools came by Palm Bay this spring to check out Cohen and the rest of his talented teammates. After the May evaluation period ended, several schools made a favorable impression on Cohen.
“Louisiana State, Miami, Auburn, North Carolina State, Florida, and Georgia were the schools that stood out,” Cohen said. “I talked with Coach Zook (Florida), and I came away impressed with him. He was easy to talk with. He didn’t know what position Florida was going to recruit me for yet. I also talked with Coach Coker (Miami), and he talked about Miami’s defense. Florida State called, but I wasn’t home. My father did talk with them.”
Cohen admitted that early playing time would be a factor; however he made it perfectly clear that he wanted to know what he was doing first before he got on the field.
In his spring game against Kissimmee (Fla.) Osceola, Cohen was limited to 20 snaps. His coaches didn’t want to risk an injury. Even with a small amount of plays, Cohen still was impressive by rushing for 55-yards on only 7 carries.
This fall, Cohen will take several unofficial visits.
Editor’s note: The Cohen residence must be an interesting place in the fall. Joe grew up a fan of Florida. His mother likes Miami while his father roots for Florida State.
