Pace TE has favorite

Pace (Fla.) tight end D.J. Norris is the state's top player at that position and the 6-foot-3, 240 pounder made the trip east on Interstate 10 this past weekend to check out Florida State's home opener against Virginia. Norris has also been getting some phone calls this week.

"Yesterday I think I got calls from Auburn, USF, and Florida State," Norris told FlaRecruiting.com on Monday evening. "I think UCF too. I wasn't here for those calls though. I'm supposed to call Coach Andrews back from Florida State."
Norris said he had a very good time at FSU's game over the weekend and has made plans to attend another college football game in a few weeks.
"I'm going to the Tennessee-Florida game the 21st (of September) in Knoxville," Norris said.
Norris hasn't scheduled any official visits yet but he believes he will begin doing that soon. He said he would probably take his visits once his season is over.
"I know I want to visit Florida State, Tennessee, Auburn, and the other two I'm kind of unsure about right now," Norris said. "Once I talk to more coaches I think I can make a decision on those two other visits."
Norris has received scholarship offers from FSU, Tennessee, UCF, South Florida, East Carolina, and Troy State. He thinks Auburn will soon follow suit.
"I haven't really talked to any coaches yet but I think Auburn wants to offer me because their coach has called like four times," Norris said. "I think they will offer me."
For the most part Norris is being recruited to play tight end but Florida State is interested in using Norris on the defensive side of the ball.
"Coach (Mickey) Andrews wants me to play defensive end at Florida State," Norris said. "That's a good thing about them is that they want me to play defense there. Tennessee wants me to play H-back."
Norris listed Florida State, Tennessee, Auburn, Kentucky, and UCF as his top five. Florida State and Tennessee are the leaders of the pack and among those two, the 'Noles have the early lead.
"I watched them play and I've talked to a bunch of coaches (at FSU)," Norris said. "I'm going to visit Tennessee to watch them play and it might change then but for right now I think Florida State is No. 1."
Pace played a kickoff classic last week against Tate and won, 14-7.
"We played a half," Norris said. "I did pretty good. I played every play on defense and probably half the plays on offense. They're trying to get me in shape to play both ways. We play Choctaw on Thursday. They're from Fort Walton."
