Pac10 Eyes Unheralded QB

It seems like the season of 2003 will be the year of the unheralded quarterback in the state of California. The class of 2003 saw the Golden State provide 25 signal callers (either JUCO or HS) to the next level.
Though the talent level isn’t as well known to recruitneks as it was a year ago, look for California to once again supply colleges with outstanding field general talent.

One of those under publicized quarterbacks is Joey Halzle (6-3, 175, 4.75) from Westlake Village (Calif.) Oaks Christian School.
Halzle was selected all-CIF and all-league as a junior after throwing for 2,316 yards completing 143 passes on 253 attempts with 27 touchdowns and only eight interceptions. He completed 56.5% of his passes his junior season.
As a sophomore Halzle threw for 750 yards and 20 touchdowns. For his career at Oaks Christian, Halzle has 47 touchdown passes going into his senior year.
Halzle benches 225 and has recorded a 30.3-inch vertical jump.
“Joey is the most improved player I have ever coached in my 15 years of coaching high school football,” Oaks Christian head coach Bill Reddell said. “He has made himself into a college prospect.”
That is quite statement. Reddell has coached a lot of good players over the years and has won at every stop.
“Joey has developed into an excellent passer,” Reddell said. “He has a good understanding of the game. His intelligence and leadership skills are outstanding.”
Halzle is a very athletic quarterback who started his high school career as a wide receiver and a defensive back.
Though Halzle is somewhat of a sleeper quarterback at this time he isn’t a secret to Oregon, Oregon State, Arizona and UCLA. All four schools are keeping an eye on Halzle.
