Pac 10 schools visit two-way JC athlete

Athlete prospect Jeremey Edwards (6-1, 205, 4.33) made Compton (Calif.) City College a busy place this past spring. Edwards played quarterback and safety his freshman season, but he is mostly being looked at for his skills as a safety.
"Jeremey is one of those kids that are a pleasure to coach," Compton line coach Owen Brown said. "He is a good kid with great character, and he always has a smile on his face.

"Jeremey is very consistent and never seems to have a bad day," Brown said. "He's going to play the safety position for us and even in some schemes play corner. He will definitely be a big part of what we do on defense this year.
"If I had to compare him to someone, I'd have to say Adrian Wilson of the Cardinals," Brown said. "Like Wilson, Jeremey has a great combination of speed, freakish athleticism, coverage skills and hitting ability.
"The reason that Edwards may be a little under the radar is, he made a big team sacrifice by playing quarterback," Brown said. "We needed him to play quarterback because we had a lack of depth at the position. He may have to be ready to help us at quarterback just in case.
"During our biggest game of the year against El Camino College," Brown said. "We couldn't do anything on offense and Jeremey came off the bench and almost single handedly brought us the victory due to his arm and legs. We ended up losing that game, but after that game people wanted to know who was that Edwards kid and why isn't he starting.
"Preferably Jeremey likes to play in the secondary because he loves to be physical and just plain hit," Brown said. "Trust me when I say, he can hit with anyone in the country."
Edwards had his coming out party when he had an outstanding showing at the junior college combine a couple weeks ago when he recorded a 4.33 40-time, which was one of the fastest times at the combine, if not the fastest.
Despite limited play as a defensive back, there are a lot of schools are inquiring about him right now and want to come by the school and check him out in person.
"As far as schools Edwards favors Oklahoma slightly over Oregon and Arizona State," Brown said. "He likes Oklahoma right now because he loves what they do on defense and how aggressive they play.
"Jeremey likes Oregon because they are very creative with their defensive backs," Brown said. "He loves their offense because it fits his skills as a quarterback. He also likes their topnotch facilities.
"Arizona State is a favorite because they have a great coaching staff in Coach Dennis Erickson and Coach Eric Yarber," Brown said. "The rest of his top schools include Oregon State, UCLA, USC, San Diego State, Cal and Arizona, but overall, he's wide open to everyone.
Edwards is on track to graduate in the winter of 2009 and will have three years to play two.
