Owls pick up Texas DB

Copperas Cove, Texas safety Joseph Leary only needed two official visits to make a commitment and it doesn't appear he's looking around any longer.
The 6-foot-1, 180-pound defensive back had visited Kansas earlier this month and just came back from Rice this weekend. Now, the Lone Star prospect has his commitment made and he says it's a solid one.

"I ended up committing to Rice," Leary said. "It just seemed like the right place for me. I liked the coaches and the education they provide was a good fit for me. I liked the school and the campus."
Leary was recruited by coach David Beaty and had good things to say about the Owls' assistant.
"He's a great guy and he did a great job of recruiting me," Beaty said. "All the coaches said that if I come in ready, they'll play me. I think if I have a good off-season, I'll probably be able to play."
Leary, who's slated to play safety at Rice, had two more official visits scheduled to Oklahoma State and UTEP. Those don't look likely to happen.
"I'm not even sure right now about that," Leary said. "I think this may be it for me. I'm pretty solid on my commitment to Rice."
