Owls and Aggies entertain Henderson

Wichita Falls, Texas athlete Tommy Henderson has picked up a few scholarship offers over the last month. One of them has a family tie to it.

"Rice offered me the other day," the 5-foot-10, 185-pound Henderson said. "They are the most recent one. I went to camp at Rice the other day. My brother plays at Rice right now, so I am very familiar with their program. I went to their camp two weeks ago and had a good time. That is where they offered me the scholarship."
Rice also offers Henderson another option.
"I wouldn't mind playing baseball in college too," he said. "And right now Rice is a pretty good place to go with them having just won the College World Series. I've talked to the baseball coach a little bit about playing for him. The coaches at Alabama and TCU are also recruiting me some for baseball."
But Henderson, a shortstop on the baseball diamond, knows his future in college athletics is tied to the football field.
" Football is my first choice and if baseball works, then great," he said. "If it doesn't work out, then I'll focus on football only."
Henderson has been working this summer on improving his skills at other camps and just returned from the Texas A&M camp.
"The A&M coaches were working me out as a cornerback," he said. "I think everything went really well there. I tested well and ran a 4.45 in the 40-yard dash. They were talking to me quite a bit about their program. They have not offered a scholarship yet, though. I would imagine they will be watching to see how I do this fall."
Henderson does not have a school he wants to name a favorite, but admits the family tie of the Owl program will probably play a factor.
"As for a real favorite, right now, I just don't have one. I won’t make my brother being there (at Rice) be a big factor. But I’m sure it will come into it before it is all done. I really want to take visits and check the schools out closely and then make a decision."
