San Antonio (Texas) O'Connor outside linebacker Jarek Lancaster already had some impressive scholarship offers from Air Force, Army and North Texas. But the 6-foot-1, 199-pounder picked up the offer he couldn't refuse on Monday.
That's when he picked up an offer from the Rice Owls.
"Jarek was offered by Rice and made a verbal commitment to them tonight," Lancaster's mother, Linda, said.

Other schools like Baylor, SMU, TCU and UTEP were interested, but it was at Rice's camp in New Braunfels, Texas, earlier this month that he really made a big impression.
A big enough impression to get an offer from the Owls a few weeks later.
"Rice worked me out at safety, not at linebacker, but they thought I was a good fit for the position," Lancaster said. "They talked to me for about 15 minutes after the camp, and made it clear I was the type of player they wanted."
