Owens to take first trip

Going into the season, athlete prospect Chris Owens (6-2, 210, 4.5) from Thousand Oaks, Calif., was looking forward to having a big season. He was hungry and why shouldn’t he be? Owens was denied the opportunity of playing his junior year because of a transfer rule.
Owens took the news in stride and set his sights on his senior season.

Unfortunately for Owens he injured his toe during the first game and played the entire season with turf toe.
For the uninitiated, turf toe is one painful injury and it hinders how you can plant your foot and how you run.
Owens had to play on heels instead of the balls of his feet. Being a competitor, Owens played on.
Owens showed courage and a competitive fire just to play the season through.
If playing with a painful turf toe wasn’t challenging enough, Thousand Oaks was a young team and if the team had to go through typical growing pains.
With injuries and youth stacked against him, Owens still did a nice job and improved every week.
Owens passed for 1,717 yards and seven touchdowns in 2003. He would have liked to use his 4.5 speed more but he was prevented from doing so because of his injury.
Owens will be taking his first visit to Cincinnati this weekend. The Bearcats have also tendered the talented all-around athlete a scholarship.
Kentucky, UAB, Colorado State and San Diego State are also showing interest and may offer trips.
Owens is resting his turf toe because he wants to be ready to go when the California All-Stars take on Florida at Moorpark College this January.
“It is a privilege to be able to suit up and play with really great players,” Owens said. “Lining up with other great quarterbacks like Nathan Longshore is going to be a great experience.”
