Owens returns from Nebraska

Quarterback Chris Owens (6-3, 205, 4.5) from Thousand Oaks, Calif., has seen his stock skyrocket over the last few weeks. He received a surprise phone from Nebraska interim head coach Bo Pelini on Wednesday evening and by Friday Owens was in Lincoln.
“Things are beginning to pop recruiting wise, day by day, hour by hour,” Owens said. “I’m beginning to reap all the benefits from my hard work in the off-season.”

“After the kind of season I went through,” Owens said. “Things are going great.”
Owens had a tough senior season and had play with severe pain. He played with turf toe from game one.
Even though hobbled with an injury, Owens passed for 1,717 yards and seven touchdowns in 2003. He would have liked to use his 4.5 speed to run more but he was prevented from doing so because of his injury.
“On Wednesday coach (Bo) Pelini called me up and asked if I would be interested in visiting Nebraska,” Owens said. “I told him I would like to visit and that I was interested in the school.”
You have to be interested in a school with that kind of prestige.”
Owens wasn’t kidding that he when he said his “recruiting is beginning to pop”.
Just in the last few days North Carolina, Syracuse and Temple have shown interest.
When Owens returned from Nebraska he had messages on the machine from both Syracuse and Temple.
Owens was given a conditional offer from Nebraska. If Pelini is hired on as permanent head coach, he has a scholarship.
Owens is a football player who will see his best days on the gridiron ahead of him.
Owens is one to watch as the recruiting process progresses into the home stretch.
Owens is resting his turf toe because he wants to be ready to go when the California All-Stars take on Florida at Moorpark College this January.
“It is a privilege to be able to suit up and play with really great players,” Owens said. “Lining up with other great quarterbacks like Nathan Longshore is going to be a great experience.”
