Overman connects with Oregon State coaches during visit

Anaheim (Calif.) Servite tight end Jake Overman had a visit set for a while to check out Oregon State, and it came to fruition this past weekend. The 6-foot-4, 239-pound three-star prospect had a lot to say about his time in Corvallis.

"On Friday, we got in around 1pm and immediately got into it," Overman said. "I went with my dad. We took the campus tour and the academic side of it. That was fun. We got to meet some of the coaches. We were with Coach [Brian] Wozniak and Darrick Yray. They were taking us around, and those two are funny. We had a great time with them. They really made us feel at home and made us feel like family. It was a great feel up there.

"We got to meet with Coach Smith; that was a good time. We got some dinner and got to hang out more with the coaching staff and got a feel for what they had to offer up there."

Overman's favorite part of the Oregon State visit? Well, it was hard for him to choose just one thing, but he picked his time with Wozniak and Yray.

"It's hard to pick my favorite thing. I really enjoyed hanging out with Coach Woz and D-Yray," explained Overman. "They're best friends -- they're funny, they have jokes, they mess with each other, they're competitive. They're funny dudes; that was my favorite part if I had to pick."

As a whole, Overman really connected with the OSU coaching staff and has a good feel of the direction of the program.

"One thing I noticed with the whole staff is that they're right to the point," said Overman. "The don't beat around the bush. (Wozniak) was just telling me that they need me. They need my position for what their offense is going to be doing. They really feel like I fit and I feel like I do as well after watching their practice. I really like where they're headed. Coach Smith is changing the environment and culture ... I think they have a great coaching staff on board."

When Overman visits a school, he likes to walk out of the tunnel onto the field to see how it feels. Overman does this to help him picture if he could see himself at the school, and he had a great vibe when he walked into Reser Stadium.

"When I did that [at Oregon State], I got chills down my body," Overman said. "It was a really cool experience for me. Everywhere (I visit), I think could this be the place I commit? Could I see it? I definitely saw it hard [at Oregon State] and they made me think about it hard as well. They gave me no choice but to think hard about it with all of the thing they were showing me and telling me.

"They're taking one tight end in my class and they want it to be me. That's cool to hear. I'll still take my visits and keep my options open, but they definitely left a good impression on me for sure."

Overman visits Washington from April 12-13 and Colorado from April 19-20. He does not have an offer from the Huskies yet, but that could be in the works.

Along with Oregon State, Overman holds offers from Arizona, Colorado, Princeton, UNLV, and Utah State.
