OU spring game could be a crucial visit for 4-Star OT Stacey Wilkins
CEDAR HILL, Tex. -- Four-star Arkansas offensive tackle Stacey Wilkins will be at Oklahoma this weekend for the Sooners spring game, and even he admits that the temptation will be there for him to make an early commitment.
Whether or not that happens, it appears as though his recruitment will be far from over, as a number of teams are still hopeful to come away with his final decision. Wilkins had planned on committing in May going back to earlier in the spring, but he’s been serious in his interest in Alabama, TCU, Texas, Texas A&M, and USC, among others.
“I might,” Wilkins said about a potential OU commitment this weekend. “I know Lane Johnson followed me on Twitter last week. He’s just been telling me about what they had to offer and I went up there the first time and really liked all they had. Coach (Lincoln) Riley was really successful in his first year, and when he was at Texas Tech he recruited four players out of my school, so he’s kind of familiar with the area I stay in.”
Wilkins has captured the attention of coaches and fans everywhere thanks to his long, athletic frame and the nasty streak that he brings when he goes head-to-head with defensive linemen. He said he’s been excited to strike up a relationship so quickly with Johnson, and that he’s looking forward to meeting him and some other former OU greats this weekend.
“They’re one of my top schools right now,” he said. “I like what they have to offer, all the programs and stuff like that for the players outside of football. They produced offensive linemen like Lane Johnson and Trent Williams, so I’ll be able to meet them out there at the game.”
