Position: Offensive tackle
Size and speed: Martin O'Donnell is now 6-foot-5 and 280 pounds. He has a 40-yard dash time of 5.4 seconds.
Statistics: As a junior, he helped lead his team to the Illinois Class 8A State title and a 12-2 final record. He also helped pave the way for South’s starting tailback to rush for over 1,100 yards.
Honors: O’Donnell was named a first team all state honoree by all of Illinois’ major newspapers. He was also named his conferences’ lineman of the year.
Favorite Schools: “I’d say my favorites right now are probably Michigan, Stanford, Northwestern, Iowa, Purdue, and Notre Dame,” O’Donnell said. “There are other schools I wouldn’t mind checking out too. Nebraska is a school I’d give a look to."
“I have offers from Michigan, Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois, Purdue, Northwestern, and Stanford. I’m also getting mail from a lot of other schools, like Kansas, Kansas State, Notre Dame, and Nebraska. Iowa probably sends me the most mail out of anybody.”
Skinny: Martin O’Donnell grew up watching Big 10 football. The 6-foot-5, 280-pound offensive tackle from South High School in Downers Grove, Illinois tuned in every Saturday to watch the blue collar midwestern schools battle on the gridiron.
“The strength of a school’s academic program is first on my list,” O’Donnell said. “I also will take a good look at the environment and see if do I feel comfortable there. I’ll also take a hard look at the coaches and players as that is who I’ll be spending most of my time with.”
“My coach has advised me to wait and take all of my visits before I decide, so I won’t be committing early."
