OT/DT Cowman likes Big Ten
Offensive and defensive tackle Trevin Cowman out of Kingston (Pa.) Wyoming Valley West is receiving serious interest early in his recruitment.
The 6-foot-3 ½, 260-pounder has already received mail from schools including Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, Iowa, Virginia, Northwestern, Indiana, Maryland and North Carolina.
This season Cowman helped Wyoming Valley West to a 9-2 record as they lost in the first round of the playoffs. He went on to post 45 pancakes on the season. For the year, he was named all-conference defensive tackle and third team all-state.
"The team really stepped up this year and we did as much as we could to win, but we just came up short," he said. "As for me, I was trying to improve my form and I think I improved defensively and on my blocking percentage."
So what does he want out of a school?
"I just want to improve my football skills and have a good academic program with a solid science major. Location may also be a factor."
Are there any schools at the top of his list?
"Probably it's Michigan, Penn State, Iowa and Virginia; because the Big Ten is a good football conference," Cowman said. "But also Virginia, Michigan and Penn State are all close to home."
So far Cowman has unofficially visited Virginia, Michigan and Penn State.
"They all have great coaching staffs and I really liked the atmosphere at Virginia," he said. "The fans at Penn State though are very good too and they get into it."
As for what position he'll play in college, Cowman has his preference.
"I'd like to play defense," he said. "Because I enjoy tackling people and I just like it better. I think that might make a difference in recruiting."
With a solid 3.9 GPA, Cowman may be able to graduate early, so would he be interested in doing that?
"I'm not sure; I just don't know what my credits are right now."
Cowman also mentioned he may favor both Penn State and Notre Dame, because he was a fan of them.
This spring the recruit is planning to attend the Nike Combine at Penn State.
