OSU first to offer Onwenu

Detroit Cass Tech class of 2016 defensive tackle Michael Onwenu knew Division I offers would come eventually, but he did not expect his first to come from Ohio State.
Ohio State assistant coach Kerry Coombs was through Cass Tech last Friday and relayed to the 6-foot-2, 320-pound Onwenu news of the Buckeye's offer.

"He told me straight up they wanted to be the first to offer me," Onwenu said. "I was just excited to get my first one and from a big school like this."
Onwenu is not unfamiliar with Ohio State. He has made three recruiting visits to their campus already.
"What I mainly [took away] was the many majors that you can get at Ohio State," Onwenu said. "I don't have any family that goes there, but I watch their football games and am a fan. From what I see, I really like their defense."
A host of schools, including Illinois, Wisconsin, Tennessee and Michigan State, have shown strong interest in Onwenu early in his recruitment, but the early offer from Ohio State has made an impact on the sophomore defensive lineman.
"This says that they are serious about getting me from Michigan to Ohio," Onwenu said. "When I am in my senior year, I will always remember my first offer."
Onwenu expects to make another visit to Ohio State this summer to take part in the Buckeye's summer camp.
