Oregon State in good standing with Lucas

MORE: Busy time for Calif. linebacker Thomas
It doesn't guarantee a commitment. It may not even count for much come signing day. But there's still something to be said for the first scholarship offer, and four-star running back Paul Lucas is saying it.

He doesn't name a clear favorite and dances around the subject a bit. He has plenty of research to do. For now, though, Lucas is most caught up in the draw of the first.
This matters to Phoenix (Ariz.) Mountain Pointe standout - a lot.
"I don't really have a favorite, but I lean toward the first offer, Oregon State, because they were the most interested in me," Lucas said. "They talk to me a lot still. It's mostly Coach (Brent) Brennan. He just tells me about the offense and how I fit in good with the pro-style offense."
Arizona State, Arizona, Utah and Washington round out Lucas' list of early offers. Others are already in the mix, though. There's little chance that he's seen his last invitation.
"USC is talking to me a lot because the coach from Washington went there," Lucas said. "They are just sending me mail and all that right now."
Lucas' offseason travel will be limited because of a demanding track season.
"I might just hold off and take visits during senior year, so I can focus on everything and focus on high school stuff," Lucas said.
As a junior at Mountain Pointe, Lucas ran for more than 1,000 yards and scored 14 total touchdowns. He helped the Pride to an undefeated season and an Arizona Division-I State Championship.
