Oregon junior one to watch

One of the top juniors in the Northwest this past year was Milwaukie's (Ore.) Carl Sommer. The two way standout is close on his first offer and has one school looking very tough to beat.
Sommer, 6-4, 220 pounds will be a three year starter and stars at both tight end and defensive end. We like him on the defensive side of the ball and feel the athlete has a chance to be one of the top rush ends in the west region next year.

Sommer has a nice frame and will have no problem getting bigger and holding more weight at the college level. He's also very quick off the edge and has good speed and technique. He uses his hands well and knows how to get up the field.
Sommer said he doesn't have any official offers yet but is very close on his first.
"Oregon State has 99.9% offered," Sommer said. "I think it's just a matter of time but they have basically told me I have an offer but it's just not in writing yet. I love Oregon State and really like the coaches there. I met Coach Burton recently and really like the program and people at OSU. I know a lot of the players already and I'm just really comfortable with everyone there.
"Oregon State is recruiting me for defensive end right now. Oklahoma, Miami and Georgia Tech all requested film in the last week and I'm getting letters from a lot of schools in the Pac 10 like Washington and Oregon. I just took the SAT last Saturday and feel like I did pretty well. Right now, it's still really early for me recruiting wise since I'm just a junior so I'm just going to work out hard in the off season and look forward to the recruiting process next year."
