Oregon joins Miami and LSU atop the list of four-star athlete

It seems Oregon has officially joined the fight to land four-star athlete Gregory Rousseau.

LSU and Miami have topped the 6-foot-5 prospect’s list for months, and Rousseau, who could play receiver, defensive back or even defensive end at the next level, seemed to be torn between two. These days, however, the Ducks get a mention alongside his mainstays.

“It’s LSU, Miami and Oregon,” Rousseau said by text on Monday.

The local school is using its location to its advantage, however, as the South Florida-based Rousseau visits Coral Gables often. This Saturday will mark the latest trip south in what is becoming a long line of them.

“I'll be at Miami again on Saturday and I'm very high on them because I love they’re new staff,” Rousseau said. “They show me the most contact and they make it known that they want me down there.”

Before Rousseau gets to Miami, he’ll tour UCF. He plans to see the school’s Orlando campus on Wednesday. The touted athlete says the early playing time that could be available there intrigues him. It’s the trip he’s planning this summer, though, that has him most curious.

“I'm gonna be in Oregon this summer to visit Oregon and Oregon State,” Rousseau said. “I've always loved the Ducks uniform for starters, but I also wanna see the campus and think about if I can see my self living there. It's extremely far from South Florida.”

Rousseau, who attends Hialeah (Fla.) Champagnat Catholic High School, shined as a wide receiver last season but is in the process of adding weight to prepare himself to play defensive end in college.

RIVALS REACTION: It’s interesting to see that Rousseau is making concrete plans to visit Oregon. That’s certainly worth something, but the Ducks still have to be seen as the underdog. Miami and LSU seem tied at the top of Rousseau’s list. It’s hard to doubt Miami in any recruiting battle these days, so if anyone has an edge it’s probably the Hurricanes. That said, LSU will likely fight to land Rousseau and remain in the mix until the end.
