Oregon, FSU in for furious finish with four-star defensive back

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Despite recently naming Florida State as his leader, Isaiah Bolden remains committed to Oregon. The situation is peak recruiting semantics. Don’t try to make sense of it.

The situation is a massive contradiction. That’s clear to anyone, but it somehow backs up another claim Bolden made last week.

“My Signing Day might be crazy,” he said on Wednesday.

A four-star cornerback at Zephyrhills (Fla.) Wesley Chapel High School, Bolden has already been committed to FSU in the past but changed his commitment to the Ducks in late April. He now plans to sign in his letter of intent during the early signing period on Dec. 20.

That’s all to say this situation could escalate the strange scale in the near future.

“My parents want me at Florida State,” Bolden said. “The distance stuff doesn’t matter to me personally, but it matters to them.”

According to Bolden, the difference between the Ducks and Seminoles isn’t even particularly nuanced. He lays out his view of the two schools with few minced words.

“Oregon is more like a family-based community team,” he said. “It’s all family. Here [at Florida State], they recruit the best of the best. If you wanna be here, you better win and you better compete.”

Bolden once hoped to be an early high school graduate, but has recently scrapped that plan. He’ll now finish both semesters of his upcoming senior year. Still, his decision to sign early is final. It’s why the months ahead will serve as the home stretch.

“Both coaches are recruiting me hard and both schools are great,” Bolden said. “I mean, I have great relationships at Florida State and at Oregon. Really, it’s just going to come down to what’s best for me and my family.”

RIVALS REACTION: Parents rarely lose recruiting battles, so FSU has to like its chances here. That said, Bolden could have his decision made for him should he drag his feet here. FSU could easily fill up at his position while he’s committed to Oregon. The Ducks will need to lock Bolden down during a fall official visit, and that may be a tall task.
