One to watch in 2004

City College San Francisco always has its share of talented players. Every season it seems ten players from CCSF program goes to the D-I level. One player to put on your list for the class of 2005 is former four-star wide receiver from the season of 2002 Ruben Jackson (5-10, 170, 4.4).

Jackson has taken his considerable skills to CCSF where he has collected over 500 all-purpose yards and has scored six touchdowns.

Jackson was one the nation’s best punt returner’s a year ago and even on the JUCO level his special team’s play is special. He has also caught over 10 passes for over 200 yards as a receiver.

Jackson committed to Idaho State out of high school but he decided to head to CCSF and improve his grades so he could play at the highest collegiate level possible.

Who can blame him?

Jackson was being recruited by every major university in the country year ago and even at one time committed to Arizona State.

Other schools that offered Jackson in high school were Cal, Miami, Michigan, Marshall, Nevada and more.

Look for Jackson to have the same kind of attention in the fall 2004. “I will be a December graduate,” Jackson said. “And I will have three years to play two.”

A year a go Jackson finished his senior high school season by catching 37 passes for over 600 yards and seven touchdowns. Jackson also played running back rushing for over 200 yards and four touchdowns.

Jackson is also used his lethal punt and kick returner skills to score five special teams touchdowns as a senior in high school.

“I think Ruben is the best wide receiver in Northern California,” former Edison head coach Booker Guyton said in an interview last year. “He does everything you want a wide receiver to do. He can make the difficult catch over the middle and he has the speed and hands to catch the deep ball. Ruben is also a ferocious blocker. He’s the complete wide receiver.”

“I’ve told Ruben that he will probably make a living on Sunday returning punts,” Guyton said.
