One on top for Fernandez

Lake Mary (Fla.) three-star outside linebacker Jerod Fernandez has collected offers from Cincinnati, Memphis, N.C. State, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Temple, UCF, and Western Kentucky. He is also drawing interest from Kentucky and TCU. At this point in the process, he has a leader with a couple of other schools standing out.
"Right now N.C. State is still number one and then Cincinnati and Pitt," Fernandez said. "I like all my options though, but I would say they are the top three."

The 6-foot, 204-pound backer talked about what has the Wolfpack on top.
"That was my first offer," Fernandez said. "N.C. State has just shown me a lot of love. When I went up there, I spoke to the head coach (Tom O'Brien) and I haven't really talked to any other head coaches like that. That shows me something. I talk to Coach (Mike) Reed almost every week."
Fernandez shared more insight on his conversation with Tom O'Brien during his April visit to the ACC school.
"He just talked to me about the program," Fernandez said. "They are a program on the rise. I know everybody says that, but they are. I like that."
As for upcoming visits, those remain up in the air at this time.
"I haven't made any plans yet," Fernandez said. "I know I want to make it to Cincinnati, Pitt, and I want to try to make it to TCU."
The Central Florida prospect hopes to know his future college destination before his senior season begins.
"I will just decide when I am ready," Fernandez said. "I will make a commitment before my senior season though."
As a junior, Fernandez had 79 tackles including five tackles for loss and three sacks.
