One of Nor Cals best makes decision

One of northern California’s better offensive linemen has decided to attend school and play football closer to home. Darrell Williams (6-4, 290, 5.0) from Oakland (Calif.) McClymonds has committed to San Jose State.
“Darrell worked real hard to get into position of getting a scholarship,” McClymonds head coach Alonzo Carter said. “He was the number one offensive lineman on their board.”

“San Jose State showed him a real good time and did a nice job recruiting him,” Carter said. “Darrell wanted to stay close to home and San Jose State really showed him that they wanted him and helped him make an easy decision.”
“Darrell will be a late qualifier and San Jose is willing to wait for him,” Carter said. “Colorado State and Utah were also very interested but both schools are far away from home.”
“It is only his Dad and younger brother at home,” Carter said. “Darrell wanted to be near the both of them.”
How good is Williams?
“We scrimmaged San Jose (Calif.) Valley Christian,” Carter said. “That is the team that (five-star and USC bound) Jeff Schweiger plays defensive end for. After the scrimmage Schweiger told Darrell that he was the best lineman he has played against.”
High praise indeed.
Though Williams played tackle on the high school level he projects as an offensive guard for the Spartans.
“Darrell is real quick and light on his feet,” Carter said. “He will make an outstanding guard for San Jose State.”
Williams was select to the Cream of the Crop team by the Contra Costa Times. That is a top 20 list of the area’s best players. He was also selected all-area, all-city and all-league for his senior season performance.
