One of best in West makes pick

Woodland Hills (Ca.) Taft athlete Steve Smith had been torn between USC and Tennessee for quite some time. But the wait is over.

"He decided this morning," Steve Smith's father, Steve Smith Sr., said. "He called coach Fulmer and said thanks but he had his heart set on USC. He called them and committed this morning."
Smith, a four-star athlete, is another gem in the potential recruiting crown for the Trojans. USC currently has the No. 1 class in the nation and adding Smith to the fold surely will help it fend off fast rising teams like Oklahoma, LSU, Florida and Miami.
Smith's father said distance played a factor in his decision.
"He gets to play around his friends and family," his father said.
