One in front for Elder

KISSIMMEE, Fla. - Amongst the standout defensive backs on the Southeast team at the ESPN Rise Gridiron Kings event is College Park (Ga.) Banneker safety Chaz Elder. The four-star safety is quite familiar with some of his teammates as well as numerous opponents.
"I knew quite a few of them from The Opening in Oregon," Elder said. "It is fun to get back to communicating with them and playing with them. The one thing we all do best is play football."

The 6-foot-2, 180-pound defensive back has narrowed his focus in regards to his recruitment as well.
"It is kind of between South Carolina, Georgia, and Vanderbilt," Elder said.
Elder has previously visited all three schools and talked a bit about why they make up his top schools.
South Carolina: "I like South Carolina a lot. Me and Coach (Lorenzo) Ward have a great relationship. So if I do decide to go there, I will be playing under him. I like the campus. I also like that they are a winning program."
Georgia: "That is the in-state school. I have some friends who have gone there before. I also like that I get a chance to talk to Coach (Mark) Richt a lot. I've built a good relationship with them."
Vanderbilt: "They are coming after me kind of hard. One thing that caught my eye with them is that they have a good recruiting class coming in. I have been looking at that and wondering about that. They are changing the face of the program. So I am looking at that."
One of those three is standing out as a favorite.
"My leader right now is South Carolina," Elder said.
With regards to a decision, Elder said it could come as early as next month.
"By August maybe," Elder said.
