One big day

It's been a big day for Mansfield (Texas) Summit dual-threat quarterback John Chiles. Even though he didn't make the Texas junior day, a pair of offers came that made the situation even better for the talented young man.
First, it was the Longhorns that made a phone call to his coach at the high school while the Rivals100 member was sitting through class. He went down to the coaches offices and phoned UT assistant Bruce Chambers. That was when he found out that he had another offer on the list.

"Texas made me an offer," Chiles said. "It was over the phone. He just talked to me about Texas and talked to my coach. They're recruiting me as a quarterback and I like that. It was a big offer for me."
In the past, Chiles has been honest about his top school being the Longhorns. However, another big program made his day twice as big with another huge phone call.
"Then I talked to coach Charlie Weis and he said that he wanted to offer me," Chiles said about the Irish interest. "But, they want to recruit me as a wide receiver. I don't know, I'm pretty set on quarterback. It's still in the air."
For now his top group of schools, other than Texas, also include Florida, Georgia Tech, Texas A&M, and Oklahoma State. Florida and Georgia Tech joined the mix with offers in the previous weeks.
"I just like those programs and what they have to offer me," he said. "Plus, they're going to give me a shot at quarterback. That's what I want to play and I'm being honest about that."
"This is really exciting. It kind of just blew up."
Chiles is planning on visiting Texas in March.
