Ole Miss loses second commit since Hugh Freeze resignation

After losing a commitment from 2019 four-star Texas prospect Bobby Wolfe on Thursday night the bad news kept coming for Ole Miss on Saturday as three-star Germantown, Tenn. athlete Jaylin Williams backed off his pledge to the Rebels.

The decision by Williams appears to be a direct result of the uncertianity surrounding the Ole Miss program since Hugh Freeze's resignation on Thursday night.

"Based on recent developments within the Ole Miss football program and with much consideration and a long talk with the family I've chosen to de-commit from the University of Mississippi and will be re-opening my recruitment prcoess," Williams said in a statement release via Twitter on Saturday afternoon

The news comes just two days after Williams told Rivals.com that he "didn't commit to the school because of a single coach" and that he intended to stick with the Rebels as the situation unfolded.

Williams originally committed to Ole Miss over programs like Vanderbilt, Mississippi State and others.

While he wasn't a commitment, three-star defensive back Jaylon Reed, a prime target for the Rebels in the 2018 class, committed to Mississippi State late Friday night. A move that also appears to be related to the Freeze news.

"This is a big loss for the Rebels and comes just a little more than 24 hours after the news that Hugh Freeze was no longer the coach," RebelGrove.com recruiting analyst Russell Johnson wrote early Saturday morning. "Reed and Freeze talked daily, and while I wouldn't say that this is a direct result of the news, it's pretty close to it."

Ole Miss now has nine commitments remaining in the Class of 2018 and the loss of Williams dropped the Rebels from No. 50 to No. 57 in the Rivals.com Team Recruiting Rankings.
