At 6-foot-2 and 200-pounds, DeKaylin Metcalf quickly stands out in a crowd, and if his size does not grab the attention, his athleticism will.
On Sunday in Hoover, Ala., at the Birmingham stop of the Rivals Camp Series he turned heads with his size, athleticism, and his overall performance.
The Oxford, Miss., standout took on all comers on the afternoon and he handled business throughout the day. For his efforts he took home receiver MVP honors.
"It feels great knowing that all the corners wanted to go against me," Metcalf said. "I can carry around that swagger about myself, but it feels great going up against some of the best talent from Alabama, Tennessee, and Mississippi."
Metcalf's talents have attracted the attention of college coaches, but the hometown Ole Miss Rebels were quick to offer and Metcalf knew he what he wanted.
"It meant a lot because I can try to follow in my dad's footsteps playing at Ole Miss, and being that I'm only a sophomore and getting it done I have some room to breathe and I can focus on other things," Metcalf said.
He has not completely shut down his recruitment and is still willing to consider options. However, Ole Miss is definitely at the top and there are plenty of reasons.
"I've been around Ole Miss since I was about three years old so it's pretty much home for me," Metcalf said. "My dad played there, my mom went to school there, my aunt went to school there, so why not?"
Metcalf plans to visit Ole Miss later this week.
