When Rivals250 and Nashville Overton defensive back Ugo Amadi committed to Ole Miss earlier this year, it came as a shock to some. At that time, Amadi said he wasn't sure if he would test the waters and take more visits. Now he knows for sure.
Amadi confirmed this week that he will take at least three official visits, including his trip to Ole Miss. The other schools scheduled for visits as of now include LSU and Penn State. The Rebels will get the first trip, when the school hosts Tennessee on Oct. 18. The Vols are another program still working on Amadi.
"I'm still solid to Ole Miss but I just want to make sure that I look at everything one more time before I decide," Amadi said. "I picked the Tennessee game because I think it will be an interesting game and they have a nice rivalry. I think it will be a good match-up for both teams and they match up well talent-wise."
Amadi, who refers to Ole Miss as "we" said he was thrilled to see fellow Tennessee native Drew Richmond commit to the Rebels earlier this month.
"I'm really excited about him committing to us," he said. "I told him to think about Ole Miss when we were in Baltimore for the Five-Star Challenge and I'm glad he pulled the trigger. Now that opens the door for other big-time guys to join us."
The following weekend Amadi will take an official visit to Penn State for the Nittany Lions' home game against Ohio State on Oct. 25.
"I have been talking to Coach (Bob) Shoop and that's the date they really want me there," Amadi said. "I loved their staff when they were at Vanderbilt, now I want to see what they're doing up there, see the group they have an see if I can fit it. I'm just looking and seeing if things need to change for me."
Amadi will be accompanied by his family on the trip, and he said they are looking forward to talking with first-year head coach James Franklin.
"I want to make sure they get to see everything that I get to see so they're coming with me on all of them," he said. "I really feel like Penn State has a good staff and I give my respect to Coach Franklin, he can change things there and now that they don't have the sanctions to worry about, it will only get better. I want to see what he can do this year and see how he does against a good team like Ohio State."
The third planned official visit for Amadi is to LSU on Nov. 8, when the Tigers host Alabama.
"I've been to LSU but I want to make sure my family get to come with me and see what is down there," he said. "They have a great staff, good players, and their coaches keep telling me that I remind them of the Honey Badger because of what I can do on special teams and the impact I can have on a game. I just feel like I want to get down there and make sure that I see it again."
LSU defensive coordinator John Chavis and Amadi have developed quite a rapport in recent months, and Amadi said that's one of the main reason the Tigers are still in the mix.
"He's a really genuine guy," Amadi said. "He tells you what it is, straightforward, all honest, he doesn't beat around the bush. He tells you want you need to know and he wants to send you off as a much better player and person than you were when you came in."
As far as Tennessee, Amadi said he will likely visit Knoxville when the Vols host Florida on Oct. 4.
"I'm going to get back up there for at least one game," Amadi said of Tennessee. "It will probably be the Florida game and it might be my official visit but I haven't decided yet."
There have been rumors tying fellow Tennessee Rivals250 prospect Kyle Phillips in with Amadi as a package deal and he said the two have discussed playing together at the next level.
"We talk about it a lot but it all depends on how things work out," Amadi said. "Most of our officials are to the same places so we've kind of talked about how it would work out.
Also in the mix in the potential package is three-star Nashville (Tenn.) Hillsboro athlete Vincent Perry, who has offers from Tennessee and Kentucky.
"The three of us are all close and we've brought him along into the circle on every visit that we've taken," Amadi said. "He's a good baseball player and he has the option to play that in college, too, but he wants to do both. If a school is willing to let him do both than we would love to have him go wherever we go."
