Pennsylvania lineman Kurt Mattes believes there is a time for everything and right now his high school team’s season is taking up a lot of his time.
The 6-foot-5, 265-pound offensive/defensive tackle is helping his Plymouth (Pa.) Wyoming Valley West team to a strong season.
“We’re 8-1 and the playoffs are coming up so I’m real focused on that,” Mattes said. “I think our team has a chance to do some special things, so I’m focused on our team right now. We’re having a good year.”
Mattes is still taking time to look at what college might be right for this three-star rated offensive lineman. He has taken an unofficial visit to Northwestern.
“I liked the coaches and players,” Mattes said. “I had a good time and found out a lot about how I would fit in.”
Mattes said there is no leader right now. He is also looking at Indiana, Pitt, UConn, Syracuse and others. He hasn’t set up any official visits.
Besides focusing on the high school season, Mattes may not be in a hurry since he may not take long on the recruiting trail.
“I don’t think I’ll take all five visits,” Mattes said. “I think I will decide before that.”
