OL Kay visits one, eyeing more trips

Lincolnton (N.C.) North Lincoln offensive guard Major Kay is a name to watch in the 2012 class. No scholarships have come in for the 6-foot-4, 295-pounder to date, but he is getting attention from colleges particularly around the region.
"I'm getting interest, letters from people," he said. "I went to junior day at North Carolina already.

"It was good. I liked the campus and everything about it. They are big on my list of colleges to go to, but I'm keeping it open and looking at whoever looks at me."
Kay plans to visit more schools in the coming months.
"I'm making plans to visit a couple places, Clemson, NC State and South Carolina for camps."
Even as interest grows, Kay claims a few schools impress him in the early going.
"I like North Carolina, South Carolina, NC State and Hampton," he said. "They are all close to my family and I like the history of those schools. I also like the academic part of it, they are schools not only based on athletics, but academics. Academics are a big part of my mom and dad's house. I've got to make sure I'll get my grades. I'm looking at going into architecture or engineering."
Although Kay didn't earn any honors, he had a strong first year starting.
"I think overall I grew as a player," he said. "I think for my size, I have good agility and footwork. My technique is probably the best thing about me, but I'm not that strong. I know that takes time for colleges to work on that. I'm working to improve on that over the next year."
