OL Jarrett Patterson takes important Pac-12 trip

Jarrett Patterson had been committed to Arizona State but backed off that pledge once the Sun Devils made a coaching change from Todd Graham to Herm Edwards.

Since that time, the three-star offensive lineman from Mission Viejo, Calif., has seen Michigan and UCLA emerge as his favorites.

Last weekend, Patterson had a phenomenal trip to Ann Arbor and so the Wolverines remain a serious contender in his recruitment.

This past weekend, he visited UCLA and again things went really well.

“What stood out is how all the players were close,” Patterson said. “It didn’t matter if they were a starter or walk-on, they all spent time together. Of course, the facilities are top of the line and the coaches are all a great group.

“Even though Westwood is in Los Angeles, it doesn’t seem like it. The school isn’t taken over by the city and you can still live a good college life. What I like about coach (Chip) Kelly is he didn’t talk about winning national championships or winning games. He talked about coming to UCLA and setting yourself up for the future. From talking to the team, they are fired up for next season and can’t wait.”

The next step for Patterson is to stop taking visits and to really focus on making a decision, although he won’t rush it. At this point, it really looks down to the Wolverines and the Bruins.

“I am pretty sure my visits are done unless another school comes in,” Patterson said. “I plan to commit in January and give myself time to think about it.”
